ISIDRO “CHILO” CHAPA
Isidro “Chilo” Chapa, 66,passed away Friday, Nov. 27,1998.Isidro “Chilo” Chapa was born in Laredo on Aug. 23, 1932 son of Rebecca Buitron (and the late Faustino Chapa) and brother to Jesus M. (Lucinda, dec’d.) Chapa, Dr. Paul R. (Raquel) Buitron, the late Hector Chapa, Faustino (Raquel) Chapa as well as his nephews Jesus M. Chapa Jr. and Paul Raymond (Lilian) Buitron.
A life long Laredoan serving his community by teaching and helping the youth of Laredo in achieving goals. Through his training in Zipota/Savate and Boxing he was the head Boxing instructor of the boys club from 1955 to 1969, producing excellent Laredoans like the honorable Judge Manuel Flores, Doctors Paul R. Buitron, Humberto Varela, Manuel Gonzalez, Francisco Mendoza and lawyers
Jimmy Sandoval, Homero Canales as well as others. Isidro Chapa has the record for the most consecutive wins for a boxing trainer of the golden glove tournaments in Texas, for the time in which he taught. He produced champions in all the categories in which he placed boxers. He was also the first to bring and teach Judo in Laredo. Teaching the martial arts to his
family, Zipota and its traditions continue to this day given with full respect to his nephew Professeur Paul-Raymond Buitron III head Professeur of Savate Danse De Rue. As well with his efforts towards the community, Don Isidro Chapa served his country for 15 years in the National Guard. He retired after becoming the supervisor of the printing and publishing department at the Laredo Community College. Funeral
services are pending with the Hernandez Lopez and Sons Northside Chapels, 800 Boston St. at San Bernardo Ave.
